LUDHIANA: To promote digital transactions in the ticket generating system, the northern railway authorities will soon allot hand-held terminal machines to on-board ticket checking staff of Rajdhani Express and Duranto Express. The official would then convey the message to the control room through the same system,” said Singla. With these devices, the railway staff would be able to generate a digital ticket to on-board passengers through credit/ debit card payments. With these handy machines, the railway staff would also be able to get an easy access to the data related to availability of seats in the long-route trains and based on that provide vacant seats to the passengers waiting to get reservation for the next station during the train journey. Moreover, the move will also help counter the problem of ticket checkers arbitrarily charging money from passengers. In the past few months, the railway authorities had received several complaints regarding the overcharging by on-board tickets checkers as the passengers would be unaware of about the exact fair of the tickets. The machines will give a digital printout of the ticket and the total amount which the rail commuters will have to pay in case he/she is found travelling without a ticket.Ludhiana station director Abhinav Singla said, “After the success of the pilot project which was run in the premium trains of Delhi and Mumbai side in the past several months, the northern railway authorities will soon adopt this technology in the prominent trains passing through the Ferozpur division with a view to promote the digitization of the Indian railways.“This hand-held terminal system would be connected to the railway authorities so that in case of an unwanted situation, passengers are able to seek help from railway officials on board and contact him/her without any delay.
