Gang headed by 18-year-old busted, five held with guns

JALANDHAR: As Jalandhar rural district police arrested five persons with nine pistols, 73 live cartridges and 260gm of heroin, an 18-year-old boy, who had escaped from Hoshiarpur juvenile home in August last year, turned out to be the gang leader. Apart from nine pistols and 73 cartridges, 260gm of heroin was also recovered from them.Meanwhile, in a separate case, police arrested one Ranjit Singh resident of village Pur Heera, Hoshiarpur, wanted in a criminal case.A pistol and three live cartridges were recovered from him. Accused Jaskaran Singh alias Kari, resident of village Khera in district Hoshiarpur, already has 17 cases against him including of murder.“He got into crime in the last couple of years and then indulged in several criminal activities and he was facing cases of snatching and murder. In August last year he escaped from juvenile home on Hoshiarpur and again got in touch with other criminals and became their ring leader,” said SSP Navjot Singh Mahal.“His preliminary questioning revealed that he wanted to rise high in the world of crime,” SSP added.The other arrested accused include Tejpal Singh, 22, resident of Hadiabad, Phagwara having three cases against him and already a proclaimed offender in a case registered against him under the NDPS Act at Ludhiana last year; Som Nath, a resident of village Rurki near Goara having six cases against him; and Shinderpal and Vijay, both wanted in one case each.SSP said that they were arrested from Mehmadpur canal bridge when they were travelling in an SUV.
