Ludhiana: A day after two candidates quit the Lodhi Club poll race and nominations of two others were cancelled, those left in the fray have intensified their campaign for the February 17 elections.Notably, CA Nitin Mahajan and Rishamjit Singh Gaba have been elected general secretary and mess secretary unopposed, but the official declaration in this regard will be made only after results are declared.With just few days to go, the candidates are leaving no stone unturned to woo the voters of the club. They are visiting their homes to make personal appeals, sending them WhatsApp greetings every day and much more.Moreover, the candidates are also visiting politicians who have huge influence over the general body election process of city’s both elite clubs — Lodhi and Sutlej.On Sunday, a photo of general secretary candidates meeting cabinet minister Bharat Bhushan Ashu had gone viral on the social media while pictures of other candidates with MP Ravneet Bittu too made the rounds.Meanwhile, candidates are distributing their manifestos among the club members, while others are strengthening their campaign by uploading photos with prominent personalities on the social media to influence their voters and flaunt their connections among the rival candidates.TOI spoke to some of the candidates about their vision for the club. Finance secretary candidate Rohit Gupta said, “I am contesting for this post as it bears relevance to my qualification and experience in the field of finance. If elected, I will work for the betterment of the club along with streamlining the online payment of subscriptions. I will also make it sure that timely information is given to the members about the financial health of the club. Besides, I will work on maintaining capital receipts and expenditures so that the reserves of club are not eroded.”Amrit Bhambri, who has been fielded for the post of joint secretary, said, “I have a long experience of working with the club as an office-bearer and am a fit candidate for running the club’s many affairs. Though I entered the race at the last minute, I am hopeful that my friends, well wishers and supporters will ensure a thumping victory for me.”
