Ludhiana: A 25-year-old woman committed suicide at her house in Aman Vihar Colony on Wednesday afternoon.Jia had tied the knot with Sunil Kumar, a factory worker, three years ago. The couple had no children.At the time of the incident, Sunil was at his workplace and his mother was upstairs attending to guests.Jia’s mother-in-law Nanakki told the police, “Due to a marriage function in our neighbourhood, some of the guests are staying at our house. In the afternoon, I was upstairs with the guests and Jia was in her room on the ground floor. Her room window was open. A neighbour saw her hanging from the ceiling fan and raised the alarm. We broke open the door and brought Jia down. But she could not be saved,” she added.Salem Tabri police station SHO inspector Vijay Kumar said, “The family has not given any statement. The couple was childless. Jia’s parents, who are in Kanpur, have been informed about the incident. We will proceed further after recording their statement.”
