Traffic cops yet to devise anti-speed plan

Ludhiana: The Ludhiana traffic police has not been able to propose any concrete plan to curb the speeding of vehicles in the city roads. The traffic police was in talks with the municipal corporation to ensure that the signboard for speed limits on roads were installed. Besides, special traffic police has already started special drive of challans for traffic violations.’’ He however agreed that in the city the speed limits should not go beyond a particular point. The city traffic police has only one speed radar.To add up to the existing problems the inner roads of the city do not have any sign boards to give them any indication o teh speed limits. “We are identifying some spots where speed breakers or cat eyes can be installed to limit the speed of vehicles.

Ludhiana: The Ludhiana traffic police has not been able to propose any concrete plan to curb the speeding of vehicles in the city roads. While during the day the police is dependent on challans at night the only source of detection is the PCR patrolling. The city traffic police has only one speed radar.To add up to the existing problems the inner roads of the city do not have any sign boards to give them any indication o teh speed limits. This has led to increased accidents in the city.Realisng the need for more equipments, the traffic police has demanded three more speed radars, their request is still to be adhered. “We are identifying some spots where speed breakers or cat eyes can be installed to limit the speed of vehicles. Until speed radars are given, we are planning to get speed breakers installed in city areas, for which we are also writing to the Municipal Corporation,’’ said Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (ADCP- Traffic) Tarun Rattan.Speaking about some of teh steps that were being taken by the police he said, ``As of now the traffic police has only one speed radar which is used on elevated flyover from day to evening. Besides, special traffic police has already started special drive of challans for traffic violations.’’ He however agreed that in the city the speed limits should not go beyond a particular point. The traffic police was in talks with the municipal corporation to ensure that the signboard for speed limits on roads were installed. He said that in the absence of night challan drives, the PCR and night patrolling had been strenghthened. Only recently a speeding Audi car hit four vehicles including a Motorcycle, a Scooter, a cycle and an auto on Pakhowal road. In this incident as many as five persons, including one woman, sustained injuries. Prior to this, four youths died as their overspeeding car which fell into Sidhwana Canal at BRS Nagar bridge.
