Sports dept to conduct marathon to encourage voting

Ludhiana: With election round the corner, Punjab sports department will organise a state-level marathon on Sunday to encourage voting among public. The department is also urging young sportsmen under its care to go out and vote in huge numbers. “These sportsmen will inspire the society to take part in election pro-actively,” said Ravinder Singh. “There are several first time voters who were getting trained in our centres. The department is urging these youngsters to participate in the Lok Sabha elections and elect the best candidate according to their wish,” said Ravinder Singh.He also added that the state-level marathon across the district, which will be conducted on Sunday, will have more than 300 trainees of different sports centres participating.

The department runs 12 sports centres in which hundreds of young sportsmen are being trained.A meeting was held under the supervision of Ravinder Singh, district sports officer, at Guru Nanak stadium on Friday, in which coaches from the 12 sports training centres received instructions to encourage young wards under their care to go out and vote. “There are several first time voters who were getting trained in our centres. The department is urging these youngsters to participate in the Lok Sabha elections and elect the best candidate according to their wish,” said Ravinder Singh.He also added that the state-level marathon across the district, which will be conducted on Sunday, will have more than 300 trainees of different sports centres participating. “These sportsmen will inspire the society to take part in election pro-actively,” said Ravinder Singh.
