Ludhiana: A 22-year-old man was arrested from an examination centre at Police DAV Public School, Civil Lines, for allegedly impersonating as a student during social sciences exam of CBSE Class X on Friday.The accused, Sahil Malhotra of Ludhiana, had pasted his photograph on the admit card of the student to appear for the examination on latter’s behalf.A case has been registered against the man for cheating. The police have also booked the minor student for whom the accused appeared in the examination.The police produced the accused before the court on Saturday following which he was sent to judicial custody.Sahil is cousin of the student who was weak in social science. The minor student had convinced Sahil to appear in the exam for him, officials said.The case has been registered following a statement of Anu Verma, centre superintendent at Police DAV Public School.In her complaint, Verma said on Friday, assistant superintendent Rahul Mehta found Sahil Malhotra suspicious, as he was wearing glasses, while in picture on the admit card the student was without glasses. Moreover, he appeared older.Rahul Mehta informed deputy superintendent Seema Thakur, who called exam observer Shilpi Gurtu. The observer questioned Sahil Malhotra, who confessed that he had been appearing in the exam for someone else. After his confession, the centre superintendent informed the police and lodged a complaint.Inspector Gurpreet Singh, SHO, division number 8 police station, while Sahil Malhotra has been arrested, the 16-year-old student is yet to be arrested.
