Ludhiana, June 21 A member of the Akhil Bhartiya Grahak Panchayat has lodged a complaint with the Municipal Corporation, Ludhiana, over use of sirens by A2Z group company’s pick-up vans for garbage collection in the city. The complainant, SB Pandhi, has said that the sirens are blown when the pick-up van reaches residential areas for door-to-door collection. “Such sirens are only used by ambulances while taking patients to hospital or by fire tenders while going to douse a fire or by some police vehicles on patrol. But, it is surprising that vehicles of A2Z company which have been appointed for collecting door-to-door garbage, blow sirens while picking garbage from residential colonies,” he stated in the complaint. “When sirens are blown by pick-up vehicles, residents feel that someone in the colony has fallen ill and an ambulance has entered the colony or some police vehicle or a fire tender has entered the colony. The sound of sirens not only causes sleep disturbance but also has become a nuisance for residents. We urge the MC authorities to check and stop use of sirens by the pick-up vans with immediate effect,” he said.
