Lovleen Bains Doraha, July 15 It seems that the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) hardly cares to recarpet service lanes which were full of potholes. The Dhandhari -Sahnewal Road has witnessed numerous minor to major mishaps due to massive potholes. The situation gets worse, especially during monsoon as potholes get filled with water. It gets impossible for commuters to identifly potholes which usually result in accidents. “Rainwater stagnates for days in potholes. The authorities concerned do not bother,” said Harjeet Singh Dhillon, a resident of Sahnewal. Former MP Bibi Rajinder Kaur Bulara, who resides in Jugiana village said, “The NHAI or the private contractor have made little effort to ease commute of residents. Four-wheelers and heavy vehicles make commuting difficult for two-wheelers.” Prof Satjot Singh, a resident said, “It seems that we are living in a different world altogether. No road is visible any longer. The road is full of potholes. We are really fed up with non-responsive attitude of authorities concerned.” “The situation becomes horrible when it pours. At night the risk multiplies. There are no indicators highlighting the spot where grills are missing. Is it not the duty of the NHAI to make alternate arrangements?” he said. Earlier, toll manager Chanchal Raj Singh had assured that the work on service lane would begin at the earliest. However, he failed to respond to the calls today.
