Players display skills on I-Day

Our Sports CorrespondentLudhiana, August 16An exhibition match in basketball and medley relay were organised to mark the 73rd Independence Day yesterday. These competitions were conducted by the local office of the Punjab Sports Department here at Guru Nanak Stadium. In the 1,000m medley relay, Haibowal secured top position while Satish Chander Dhawan Government College finished as runners-up and GGN School, Civil Lines, got the third position. The basketball match was played between Ludhiana Basketball Academy and Coaching Centre, Guru Nanak Stadium, in which the former quelled a strong challenge before romping home victorious 60-55. Teja Singh Dhaliwal, general secretary, Punjab Basketball Association, was the chief guest on the occasion.

Teja Singh Dhaliwal, general secretary, Punjab Basketball Association, was the chief guest on the occasion. He stressed upon the need to live in harmony and contribute towards nation building. Balkar Singh Brar, former chief town planner, Punjab, and a prominent sports promoter, along with Ravinder Singh, District Sports Officer, Ludhiana, were guests of honour. Coaches of the Sports Department and other staff were also present there.
