Ludhiana, August 24 A 74-year-old man has alleged that the Division 4 police kept him under illegal custody at the behest of Assistant Commissioner of Police (Central) Waryam Singh. Surinder Sood has urged Police Commissioner Sukhchain Singh Gill to order a probe into the matter. Sood today conducted a press conference at a restaurant on Malhar Road. He alleged that yesterday, a policeman visited his house and took him to the police station. He was not allowed to leave the police station, allegedly at the behest of some persons with whom he had a property dispute. It was only when his wife came to the police station and requested the police to let him go, he was let-off around 8 pm. He alleged that MLA Central Surinder Dawar had “links” with the person with whom he had a property dispute. The MLA had asked ACP (Central) Waryam Singh to make him sit at the police station, he alleged. Sood also alleged that the ACP had been favouring the other party at the behest of the MLA. They had also approached the Police Commissioner and requested him to take action against the guilty policemen. Meanwhile, the ACP categorically denied the allegation of favouring the second party. He said Surinder was called at the police station as he had started some construction and repair work at the property which was disputed and the matter was pending in the court. The ACP said the other party had alleged that Sood had transferred the property on his name by submitting wrong documents. The ACP said a person couldn’t install CCTV cameras on a disputed property, as such Sood was asked to remove the cameras. Dawar said he had never favoured any person in the case. Being an MLA, both parties had once visited his office at their own will but they couldn’t arrive at a compromise. “I will never influence any police probe and the police will carry out investigation on merit,” said Dawar. What ACP has to say The ACP categorically denied the allegation of favouring the second party. He said Surinder was called at the police station as he had started some construction and repair work at the property which was disputed and the matter was pending in the court.
