OBITUARYDr Khem Singh Gill, (Sept 1, 1930 – Sept 17, 2019)Tireless agricultural legend, Padma Bhushan awardee and former Vice-Chancellor of PAU, Dr Khem Singh Gill, passed away on Tuesday at the age of 89 years. An agricultural scientist of international repute, he dressed modestly, donning a white turban and having a white flowing beard. It was he who mentored him to join Khalsa College, Amritsar, for pursuing higher studies in agricultural sciences. As the team leader of the Wheat Improvement Programme, Dr Khem Singh Gill did stupendous work on the development and identification of improved cultivars of wheat, which revolutionised wheat production. He remained president, Indian Society of Genetics and Plant Breeding and vice-president of the Indian Society of Genetics.
