Mahesh SharmaMandi Ahmedgarh, October 19Having exploited live mode of the social networking websites for drawing attention of voters, candidates for Dakha byelection and conveners of their campaigns are now using the same avenue for highlighting their apprehensions and reactions. Protests and meetings with senior functionaries, where protocol should be followed strictly, are no exception to the tendency. Same platform was used by the Congress nominee, Captain Sandeep Sandhu, who came live on Facebook to show his ‘maiden’ reaction on the issue. Sandhu lashed out at Akali leaders alleging that they were trying to intimidate police officials ahead of polling. However, keeping his cool Sandhu dared his rivals to settle with him instead of raising hue and cry before voters.

Mahesh Sharma Mandi Ahmedgarh, October 19 Having exploited live mode of the social networking websites for drawing attention of voters, candidates for Dakha byelection and conveners of their campaigns are now using the same avenue for highlighting their apprehensions and reactions. Protests and meetings with senior functionaries, where protocol should be followed strictly, are no exception to the tendency. Viewers were shocked to watch, what could be termed ‘capturing’ of a police station where a senior cop was virtually cornered while senior leaders of the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) supporting their candidate Manpreet Singh Ayali organised a press conference and meeting simultaneously. Leaders, who could be better termed protesters, including former minister Bikramjit Singh Majithia and Daljit Singh Cheema, alleged that the police was harassing their supporters by implicating them in false cases. It is has been observed that the ‘live’ facility of social networking sites is best exploited by supporters and enthusiasts of the Lok Insaf Party (LIP) and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) as their respective candidates Sukhdev Singh Chakk and Amandeep Singh Mohi have more computer savvy fans. A senior functionary of the LIP, Vikas Krishan Sharma, said going live during any action multiplied the impact of all events, including meetings, rallies and roadshows held to seek support of the common people. “Not only we go live during actions we study and respond to all types of encouraging and discouraging comments by the common people,” said Sharma.
