DAV girls help Jalandhar Zone finish runners-up in cricket c’ship

Our Sports CorrespondentLudhiana, November 13Girl students of local DAV Public School, Bhai Randhir Singh Nagar branch, helped Jalandhar Zone finish runners-up in the DAV National Sports U-19 State-Level Cricket Championship for Boys and Girls held at Police DAV Public School, Jalandhar, recently. These cricketers justified their selection and played a pivot role in Jalandhar Zone securing second position. In the semifinal against Samana Zone, Jalandhar Zone emerged winners. The final was played between Jalandhar Zone and Amritsar Zone in which Harshika and Jessica again bowled economically to contain opponents to 70 runs. Jalandhar Zone lost the match by 20 runs and secured runners-up trophy.

Our Sports Correspondent Ludhiana, November 13 Girl students of local DAV Public School, Bhai Randhir Singh Nagar branch, helped Jalandhar Zone finish runners-up in the DAV National Sports U-19 State-Level Cricket Championship for Boys and Girls held at Police DAV Public School, Jalandhar, recently. Harshika Dhammi, Jessica Dua, Nivedita Ghai and Yashika Thapar from this school gave an excellent performance in the DAV Cluster-Level Cricket Tournament wherein DAV Public School, BRS Nagar, secured second position and were selected for the State-Level Championship. These cricketers justified their selection and played a pivot role in Jalandhar Zone securing second position. In the semifinal against Samana Zone, Jalandhar Zone emerged winners. In this match, Harshika Dhammi and Jessica Dua, both students of Class VIII, bowled exceedingly well to restrict Samana Zone to 60 runs. Harshika grabbed two wickets for seven runs in two overs while Jessica bowled two overs and gave away just five runs. Then, Jalandhar Zone began its reply in style with Nivedita Ghai and Harshika Dhammi gave a flying start, adding 31 runs in four overs for the opening wicket which laid the foundation for surpassing the total and wrap up the issue comfortably. The final was played between Jalandhar Zone and Amritsar Zone in which Harshika and Jessica again bowled economically to contain opponents to 70 runs. Jalandhar Zone lost the match by 20 runs and secured runners-up trophy. For her outstanding contribution, Harshika has been selected for the DAV National Championship to be held in the last week of this month at Panipat. Principal Jaswinder Kaur Sidhu appreciated the girls’ performance and lauded their coach Amandeep Singh’s contribution in this achievement. She wished Harsika good luck for the forthcoming championship at Panipat.
