32nd dental check-up fortnight concludes

Tribune News ServiceLudhiana, December 3The 32nd dental check-up fortnight organised by the Department of Health and family Welfare at the sub-divisional hospital, Raikot, Ludhiana concluded today. While sharing details about the fortnight, Civil Surgeon Dr Bagga said they had organised a dental fortnight at the Ludhiana Civil Hospital, four sub-divisional hospitals (SDHs) of district along with six community health centres. “Dental experts have examined 5,635 patients with dental ailments and distributed total 171 dentures among poor patients free of cost,” said Civil Surgeon Dr Bagga. He said: “21 teams of medical officers (dental) and hygienists were especially constituted for the fortnight in the districts and they had treated patients with eroded tooth and other major dental complications. We should not ignore dental ailments as it may lead to serious health problems.”“Patients need to be careful from roadside dental quacks and avoid them for any consultation or treatment,” Dr Tirath Singh.

On the concluding day, Civil Surgeon Dr Rajesh Kumar Bagga distributed 15 dentures among underprivileged patients in the presence of District Dental Health Officer Dr Tirath Singh and Senior Medical Officer (SMO), Raikot, Dr Surinder Pal Kaur. While sharing details about the fortnight, Civil Surgeon Dr Bagga said they had organised a dental fortnight at the Ludhiana Civil Hospital, four sub-divisional hospitals (SDHs) of district along with six community health centres. “Dental experts have examined 5,635 patients with dental ailments and distributed total 171 dentures among poor patients free of cost,” said Civil Surgeon Dr Bagga. As many as 133 root canal treatments (RCTs), 317 scaling and 133 free dental X-rays were done during the fortnight.” Dr Bagga said “The mass media wing has conducted various seminars in government and private educational institutes about the importance of dental health.” Dr Bagga further said “We have created awareness about signs and symptoms of oral cancer and harmful effects of tobacco products on dental hygiene. We should not ignore dental ailments as it may lead to serious health problems.” “Patients need to be careful from roadside dental quacks and avoid them for any consultation or treatment,” Dr Tirath Singh. He said: “Treatment of dental problems is free of cost at government health facilities. Even we provide treatment to students of government schools under the Rashtriya Bal Swasthya Karyakram (RBSK) under the National Health Mission.” “There is major relation between oral and general health, and teeth are as important as other body organs,” said he.
