Six illegally constructed shops razed

Ludhiana: Cracking whip on violators, the municipal corporation (MC) took action against six shops being constructed illegally in Haibowal area on Wednesday.The shops were being constructed in violation of the building bylaws and the civic body had received a complaint against the illegal activity.The officials said that a warning had also been issued to the owner.MC commissioner Sandeep Rishi said that regular drives were being conducted against illegal constructions and the building branch officials had been directed to take stern action against the violators.Sandeep Rishi said that the civic body had appealed to the residents to intiate the construction works only after getting the building plans approved from the MC. The staff and the electricity provider have been cautioned about potential disciplinary actions if found guilty.Take action against officials sitting on illegal building files, Cal HC urges mayorThe Calcutta High Court has urged mayor Firhad Hakim to take action against officers who failed to act on an illegally built high-rise in Canning Street for the past three years. The court emphasized that if the officers are not dealt with appropriately, the problem of illegal construction will continue to grow. The issue came to light after a complaint was made to the mayor, leading to an inspection that revealed the illegal construction. The court stated that while the building should be demolished, the occupants should be given a hearing before any decision is made. The court also called on the Kolkata Municipal Corporation to take steps to combat illegal construction and protect the city from unscrupulous builders.
