Nikhil Bhardwaj Ludhiana, April 29 A bank employee who chased a snatcher two days ago was honoured by the Ludhiana Police Commissionerate, but an Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) of the Anti-Narcotics Cell, who had put his life at stake, while trying to stop a notorious drug smuggler, is yet to be rewarded. The entire incident was captured in the CCTV cameras. But neither any case was registered against the smuggler on the complaint of ASI Sanjiv Kumar, nor was any appreciation given to him. The development belied the claims of ADGP Law and Order Rohit Chaudhary, who yesterday visited the city and pushed for ‘quick reward and quick punishment’ policy. The incident was reported in the tenure of previous Police Commissioner Kunwar Vijay Pratap Singh. However, the new Police Commissioner on being told about the matter said when he came to know about the incident, he took inputs and ordered registration of a case against the smuggler, who dragged the ASI over his car, adding that the ASI would be rewarded for his bravery. Police Commissioner RN Dhoke honoured bank employee Lovely Sondhi today for chasing a snatcher after he snatched a purse from NRI woman Parvinder Kaur on the Malhar Road. After a few minutes of chase, the bank employee caught hold of the snatcher’s bike, but the snatcher managed to escape. “The bank employee was honoured today as he chased the snatcher. Although the snatcher managed to escape, his bike was captured by the alert bank employee,” the Police Commissioner told Ludhiana Tribune. On being asked about the delay in appreciating its own cop ASI Sanjiv, who made an attempt, though unsuccessful, to catch him by jumping on the bonnet of the smuggler’s car, the CP said: “The incident was reported before I joined, but I have ordered registration of case under relevant IPC sections and yes, the ASI will also be given appreciation reward soon.” ADCP Crime Balkar Singh said smuggler Dodda was yet to be arrested and no case was registered. Notably on April 23, a drug peddler Sunny Dodda tried to run car over ASI Sanjeev Kumar of the Anti Narcotics Cell in New Janta Nagar. However, the cop had a miraculous escape but suffered minor injuries. Another senior official requesting anonymity said the narcotics cell in charge would be asked why he did not register any case on the ASI’s complaint after this major incident.
