LUDHIANA: Finding a minor girl alone at home, a 22-year-old youth allegedly raped her on Wednesday.Sahnewal police arrested the accused on Thursday. The youth who originally hailed from Uttar Pradesh lived in a building where girl's family was also putting up. The girl studied in Class VII.Parents and brother of the rape survivor had gone to work at a sewing machine manufacturing factory on Wednesday. The incident happened in the afternoon.In her police complaint, the mother of 16-year-old rape survivor claimed that at around 4.10 pm her sister heard screams coming from their room and called them.She alleged when they reached home, they saw the accused raping her daughter. On seeing them, the accused fled, she further alleged.Police have booked the accused under Sections 376 (rape) and Section 4 of Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act.Assistant Sub Inspector (ASI) Joginder Singh, investigating officer of the case, said the accused was arrested on Thursday. He added that medical examination of the rape survivor was done at the civil hospital.The IO said the minor girl and her sister, who had come to meet her parents two days ago, were watching TV at their aunt's place. The girl went to her room to have some food when the accused pounced on her.Police officials said the accused, who has been working in Ludhiana for the past four years, lived in the same building.
