Process for admission to floriculture dept begins

Giving details about the course, Dr HS Grewal, Head, Department of Floriculture and Landscaping, said the eligible candidates could apply in the prescribed form available in the department and on the website www.pau.edu. The course has been started under the visionary guidance of the PAU vice-chancellor, Dr Baldev Singh Dhillon.

PAU Ludhiana, June 23 The admission process for one-year certificate course in the Floriculture and Landscaping Department has commenced at Punjab Agricultural University (PAU). Giving details about the course, Dr HS Grewal, Head, Department of Floriculture and Landscaping, said the eligible candidates could apply in the prescribed form available in the department and on the website www.pau.edu. The last date for the receipt of applications is July 10, he said, while informing that the interview will be held on July 14 in the office of the Head of the Department. The course has been started under the visionary guidance of the PAU vice-chancellor, Dr Baldev Singh Dhillon. It aims at fulfilling the demand of trained personnel and entrepreneurship development in this field in view of the State Government’s priority to promote floriculture under the Directorate of Extension Education, PAU. Dr HS Grewal further said the residents of Punjab and Chandigarh, who are Class XII pass and fall in the age-group of 16 to 25 years, were eligible for the course starting in July. The candidates must bring their original certificates, he added. The course will cover the practical aspects of growing of flowers for commercial purpose, use of ornamental plants for landscaping and basics of AutoCAD software for making landscape plans, he said. Informal education could play a significant role in skill development in agriculture, especially, floriculture, Dr Grewal said. The department is taking new initiatives keeping in view the public demand, he added. Dr Parminder Singh, Associate Professor, Floriculture and Course Incharge, said, “Flowers, being high value crops, give two-three times more returns than conventional crops. Their demand is huge due to change in lifestyle and awareness among people about the protection of the environment.”
