Sister arrested for abetment to suicide Jaswant Shetra Jagraon, September 13 A married couple allegedly committed suicide by hanging themselves from the hooks of the ceiling fans in their house at Dalla village, near here, this morning. The deceased have been identified as Gurdeep Singh, alias Deepa (30), and his wife Harmit Kaur (26). Gurdeep, a truck driver, was married to Harmit of Dadhahoor village, near Raikot, only around a year ago. It was learnt that Harmit was pregnant. The incident came to light this morning when the couple did not come out of their room for quite a long time. When Gurdeep’s mother, Jaswinder Kaur, visited the couple’s room, she was shocked to see their bodies hanging from the ceiling fan in the room. Soon, a large number of villagers gathered at the house. Some villagers informed the police, following which a police team reached the spot and launched investigation. The police took the bodies in its custody and sent them for post-mortem. The police have registered a case against Gurdeep’s sister Mandeep Kaur under Section 306 of the IPC and arrested her. According to the police, during initial investigation, it came to light that the couple took the extreme step due to extra-marital relationship of Gurdeep’s sister with a youth. According to information, Mandeep was married to a Sahnewal-based youth in 2008 but they separated after some years. She started living at her paternal house at Dalla village along with her 8-year-old son. According to sources, Mandeep had an extra-martial affair with a youth and Gurdeep used to object to it, which often resulted in tension in the family. Confirming the development, Hathur SHO Rajesh Kumar said: “Gurdeep Singh was insisting his sister Mandeep must end her relationship with the youth, but she was adamant to continue the relationship. Gurdeep was upset with his sister’s decision and he took the extreme step.”
