DIG records statements

The DIG (Jails), Lakhminder Singh Jakhar, recorded the statements of the jail inmates, who attacked the doctor, as well as the victim doctor. The Medical Officer was yesterday attacked by jail inmates following which he accused the senior jail officials of orchestrating the attack. The also said drug supply was rampant in the jail and the senior jail officials were hand in glove with the inmates. Once the probe is complete, I will submit my report to the senior officer for further action,” Jakhar added. ATTACK ON MEDICAL OFFICER IN CENTRAL JAIL Ludhiana, September 13 The DIG (Jails) today visited the Central Jail here to conduct a probe into the allegations of drug supply in the jail levelled by its Medical Officer, Swarnjit Singh. The DIG (Jails), Lakhminder Singh Jakhar, recorded the statements of the jail inmates, who attacked the doctor, as well as the victim doctor. Jakhar, who has been assigned an inquiry into the incident by IG (Jail) RK Arora, while talking to Ludhiana Tribune on the phone, said: “I have come to record the statements of the jail inmates and the doctor. I will conduct a thorough probe into the allegations levelled by the doctor against the Jail Superintendent and other jail staff. Till the time investigation is on, it will be too early to say anything about the allegations. Once the probe is complete, I will submit my report to the senior officer for further action,” Jakhar added. The Medical Officer was yesterday attacked by jail inmates following which he accused the senior jail officials of orchestrating the attack. The also said drug supply was rampant in the jail and the senior jail officials were hand in glove with the inmates. Meanwhile, Dr Swarnjit Singh met Police Commissioner RN Dhoke and submitted a complaint to him. The police have registered a case against Baljit Singh, Arun Kumar and seven unidentified inmates. The doctor told media persons that he would stand by his allegations.
