By 2040, India will be diabetic capital of world: Doctor

Dr Anita Kochhar informed that in India 69.1 million people will be diabetic by 2015 and by 2040 it is going to increase at an alarming rate of 140 million, making India the diabetic capital of the world. Dr Raju Singh Chinna, Dean Academics, DMC&H, Ludhiana delivered a lecture on the use of natural foods for healthy living. Dr Dywer gave a brief about the University of Edinburgh and various agriculture-related courses. Body composition analysis of students and faculty was also conducted by the VLCC. They met the Vice-Chancellor, Deans and Directors of PAU and discussed areas of mutual collaboration.

WORLD DIABETES DAY Ludhiana, November 15 The faculty and students of Department of Food & Nutrition, College of Home Science, PAU, Ludhiana observed the World Diabetes Day and organised anti-obesity campaign through a walkathon consisting of elite marathoners, followed by a physiotherapy session in collaboration with the VLCC and Verka Milk Plant, Ludhiana. An exhibition and counselling session was also organised by the students of MSc and BSc Nutrition and Dietetics under the guidance of Dr Kiran Grover, Sr Extension Specialist and Dr Sonika Sharma, Asstt Professor where people were apprised of causes, symptoms, consequences and dietary management of diabetes and obesity through charts, posters, models, folders, leaflets and nutritious recipes. Body composition analysis of students and faculty was also conducted by the VLCC. She said that genetic and environmental factors coupled with sedentary lifestyle and faulty diet is mainly responsible for the alarming increase of this disease. Dr Navin Mittal, Professor Endocrinology, DMC&H, sensitised the audience on “Self Management of Diabetes” through emphasis on the 3 Ds ( Diet, Discipline and Drugs)Professor Cathy Dwyer, Director Jeanne Marchig International Centre for Animal Welfare, Dr Guraa Bergkvist, Veterinary Oncologist, and Gurpreet Grewal Kang from the University of Edinburgh visited the PAU campus on Tuesday. They met the Vice-Chancellor, Deans and Directors of PAU and discussed areas of mutual collaboration. Experts from GADVASU also explored areas in terms of research synergy. Dr Dywer gave a brief about the University of Edinburgh and various agriculture-related courses.
