Congress councillor, supporters accused of assaulting two men at Gundibailu

At this point, Prakash Poojary, Kishore, Praveen and many others joined Mr. Ramesh Poojary in assaulting Mr. Acharya and Mr. Pranesh with their hands and also, stones. Due to the injuries suffered during the assault, Mr. Acharya got admitted to the District Government Hospital here on Sunday. The councillor and the others damaged the mobile telephones of both Mr. Acharya and Mr. Pranesh. When they reached there, they saw that municipal councillor, Ramesh Poojary, had trespassed into his property. They also snatched their gold chains, Mr. Acharya has said in his complaint.

more-in A municipal councillor from the Congress, with his supporters, allegedly trespassed into a private property and beat two youth at Gundibailu in Udupi district, over a property issue on Sunday. According to a complaint given by Ganesh Acharya (27) to the Udupi Town Police, he (Mr. Acharya) lived in Parkala and he got information from Raghavendra at around 9 a.m. on Sunday that someone was cutting trees on his property at Gundibailu. So, he and his brother, Pranesh, rushed to the spot. When they reached there, they saw that municipal councillor, Ramesh Poojary, had trespassed into his property. When Mr. Acharya asked him about the trees being cut on his property, Mr. Poojary abused him, grabbed him by his shirt collar, slapped him and threatened him. He then hit them with a stone. At this point, Prakash Poojary, Kishore, Praveen and many others joined Mr. Ramesh Poojary in assaulting Mr. Acharya and Mr. Pranesh with their hands and also, stones. The councillor and the others damaged the mobile telephones of both Mr. Acharya and Mr. Pranesh. They also snatched their gold chains, Mr. Acharya has said in his complaint. A case has been registered under Sections 341, 323, 324, 427, 447, 504, 506, 394 read with 149 of Indian Penal Code (IPC) as per the complaint given by Mr. Acharya at the Udupi Town Police Station. Investigation is on, the police said. Due to the injuries suffered during the assault, Mr. Acharya got admitted to the District Government Hospital here on Sunday. He was discharged from the hospital on Monday.
