1.04 lakh more voters added in Udupi district

The Election Commission had published the voters’ lists for the five Assembly constituencies of Udupi district such as Byndoor, Kundapur, Udupi, Kaup and Karkala. As many as 1,04,671 more voters have been added to the electoral rolls in Udupi district as on February 28, 2018, for the forthcoming Assembly elections when compared to the 2013 Assembly elections. Whereas in 2013 Assembly elections, the total number of voters were 8,73,832 voters including 4,13,094 men, 4,60,715 women and 23 others. If there were any discrepancies in the voters’ lists, they could inform the district administration. In the forthcoming Assembly elections, the district will have 1,078 polling stations.

Anuradha, Additional Deputy Commissioner, said that presently there are 9,78,503 voters in the district including 4,70,730 men, 5,07,755 women and 18 others as on February 28, 2018. Whereas in 2013 Assembly elections, the total number of voters were 8,73,832 voters including 4,13,094 men, 4,60,715 women and 23 others. The Election Commission had published the voters’ lists for the five Assembly constituencies of Udupi district such as Byndoor, Kundapur, Udupi, Kaup and Karkala. “Eligible voters could still enroll their names for inclusion in voters’ list,” she said. In the forthcoming Assembly elections, the district will have 1,078 polling stations. The ballot units had been received by the District Administration from Surendranagar in Gujarat. All the Electronic Voting Machines and Voter Verifiable Paper Audit Trail (VVPAT) units had been kept in the locker room of the Election Wing under tight police security. The voters’ lists of all the five Assembly constituencies had given to all the political parties. If there were any discrepancies in the voters’ lists, they could inform the district administration. The administration had also opened a toll free number: 1077, where people could lodge their complaints regarding voters’ lists and any violation of model code of conduct, she said. Shivanand Kapashi, CEO of Zilla Panchayat, said that Systematic Voters' Education and Electoral Participation (SVEEP) was being conducted throughout the district. In the forthcoming elections, all efforts were being made to see that people with disabilities had no problems while casting their votes. Hence wheelchairs would be made available at the polling stations. The voters and political parties would also be educated about the working of the VVPATs, he said.
