Stage set for Rahul Gandhi’s visit to Udupi

After the meeting, Mr. Gandhi will proceed to Narayanaguru Sabha Bhavan at Hejmady for lunch. The stage is set for the visit of All India Congress Committee (AICC) president Rahul Gandhi to two places in Kaup Assembly Constituency in Udupi district as part of the ‘Janashirvad Yatra’ on Tuesday. Tight security will be in place during Mr. Gandhi’s visit. Addressing presspersons here on Monday, Vinay Kumar Sorake, Kaup MLA, said that Mr. Gandhi would arrive at the Bajpe International Airport in Mangaluru, from where he would catch a chopper at 11.30 a.m. He will arrive at the temporary helipad constructed on the ground of the Government Junior College at Tenka Yermal village at 11.45 a.m. He will inaugurate the Rajiv Gandhi Political Institute (Seva Dal Training Institute) and address about 350 State office bearers of Congress Seva Dal at Tenka Yermal from 12.55 p.m. to 1.35 p.m. He will then hold a road show about three km from Tenka Yermal to Padubidri, during which he will be travelling in a bus. Mr. Gandhi would address a ‘Corner Meeting’ at Padubidri from 1.45 p.m. to 2.20 p.m. About 15,000 persons are expected to participate in this meeting. After the meeting, Mr. Gandhi will proceed to Narayanaguru Sabha Bhavan at Hejmady for lunch. Then, he will proceed to Mulki in Dakshina Kannada district and continue his tour, Mr. Sorake said. Siddaramaiah, Chief Minister; G. Parameshwara, president, Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC); K.C. Venugopal, AICC General Secretary; Dinesh Gundu Rao, KPCC working president; Mallikarjun Kharge, Leader of the Congress in the Lok Sabha; M. Veerappa Moily, Oscar Fernandes, MPs; and other Congress leaders will participate in the meeting. To a query, Mr. Sorake said that as per the original plan, Mr. Gandhi was to have started his tour of Udupi district at Byndoor and passed through Kundapur, Udupi and Kaup Assembly constituencies. But this had to change owing to the 84th Plenary Session of the Congress party held in Delhi. Mr. Gandhi will visit the places he could not visit during this yatra in the next phase, Mr. Sorake said.
