Nipah ruled out in Mangaluru; Sagar on radar

Spelling big relief to health authorities, two patients whose samples were sent to the Manipal Centre for Virus Research have tested negative for Nipah virus infection. Blood samples of the patient have been sent to the National Institute of Virology, Pune, for Nipah tests. Udupi is on high alert since lakhs of devotees, several of them from Kerala, visit the Mookambika temple in Kollur. The patients, a 20-year-old woman and a 75-year-old man, have been admitted in two hospitals in Mangaluru with symptoms similar to those of Nipah virus infection.A 27-year-old man, Mithun, who was admitted to the Sagara General Hospital in Shivamogga , has been shifted to an isolation room.
