Shiradi Ghat may be opened by July 5: H D Revanna

MANGALURU: PWD minister H D Revanna said the Managluru-Bengaluru road stretch on Shiradi Ghat will be opened by July 5.Revanna said the second phase of Shiradi Ghat development work on NH 75 is nearing completion. A new 8.5 metre wide concrete road was constructed between Heggadde to Kempuhole on the Ghat in the first phase. The work was taken up at an estimated cost of Rs 97.92 crore.Traffic movement on Mangaluru-Bengaluru NH 75 Shiradi Ghat stretch has been completely banned from January 20. The work was taken up at a cost of Rs 69.90 crore and the contract was awarded to Ocean Constructions India Private Limited. “Within four days the work will be completed and it may take 10 more days for curing of concrete.

MANGALURU: PWD minister H D Revanna said the Managluru-Bengaluru road stretch on Shiradi Ghat will be opened by July 5.Revanna said the second phase of Shiradi Ghat development work on NH 75 is nearing completion. “Within four days the work will be completed and it may take 10 more days for curing of concrete. We are expecting to open the road for traffic movement by July 5,” the minister said at an official review meet held here on Tuesday.The second phase of the work included strengthening from Gulagalale to Maranahalli and providing rigid pavement from Kempuhole to Addahole. The work was taken up at an estimated cost of Rs 97.92 crore.Traffic movement on Mangaluru-Bengaluru NH 75 Shiradi Ghat stretch has been completely banned from January 20. Vehicles are not allowed between Maranahalli in Sakleshpur and Gundya in Puttur at present. As a result, all vehicles on Mangaluru-Bengaluru route are now diverted via Charmadi and Mysuru routes. With the work nearing completion, the government is expecting to open the road by July 5.While 12.38km of road on the route was made concrete, 21km of the stretch was developed by asphalting in the second phase. The contract to take up the road development was given to Mangaluru-based Ocean Constructions India Private Limited.Earlier, the NH stretch on the Shiradi Ghat was closed from January 2 to August 9 in 2015 when the first phase of work was taken up. A new 8.5 metre wide concrete road was constructed between Heggadde to Kempuhole on the Ghat in the first phase. The work was taken up at a cost of Rs 69.90 crore and the contract was awarded to Ocean Constructions India Private Limited.
