PWD minister sanctions Rs 25,000 per km for road repair

For this, the department has decided to sanction Rs 25,000 per km,” the minister said at a review meeting here on Tuesday.The deputy commissioner of DK said that the delay in the construction of flyovers at Mahaveer Circle and Thokkottu have been causing inconvenience to people. “I will convene a meeting of officials from National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) and DC of DK in Bengaluru. I will sort out the issue through the meeting. Our department secretary will hold a meeting of officials from Udupi and Dakshina Kannada districts to solve various other issues pertaining to our department within a week,” Revanna said.On Charmadi Ghat issue, the minister said it may require about Rs 150 crore to find a permanent solution to the road stretch. “A detailed estimate will be sent to the Centre, he said, adding that honest efforts will be made to maintain Charmadi, Sampaje and Shiradi Ghat roads.”MLA of Belthangady Harish Poonja brought to the notice of the minister that almost all the major roads in 81 villages of Belthangady taluks were damaged due to heavy rain. He sought more funds for the development of roads in Belthangady taluk. Similarly, Puttur MLA Sanjeeva Matandooru and Moodbidri MLA Umanath Kotian also explained the plight of roads in their constituencies. MLAs suggested that major roads in villages should be upgraded and handed over to PWD for maintenance.Dakshina Kannada DC Sasikanth Senthil said the district requires Rs 19 crore for rain relief works in the district.
