Shantivana Trust to institute Yoga Ratna award from 2019: Heggade

DHARMASTHALA: Shantivana Trust, Dharmasthala will confer ‘yoga ratna’ award on yoga athletes for their achievements at national level. The first such award will be presented at the International Yoga Day (IYD) celebration to be held at this temple town on June 21 next, D Veerendra Heggade , dharmadhikari, Sri Kshetra Dharmasthala announced at the IYD celebration here on Thursday. The modalities of the selection of the awardee will be announced shortly, he said.Presiding over the IYD celebration organized at the Kshetra here on Thursday, Heggade said in observing IYD each year, one is becoming a ‘vishwamanva’. In addition, the Kshetra will also send the names, photos and home addresses of all 368 students to the GBR authorities for ratification. Yoga plays the vital role of joining the mind and the body.

It is also a means to keeping the mind, body and senses in control and lead an able life of peace, contentment and bliss. In practicing yoga on a daily basis, one can keep the doctor at bay, Heggade said.The IYD celebration that minister for minor irrigation C S Puttaraju inaugurated saw 368 students of SDM Naturopathy and Yogic Sciences College, Ujire make a claim to enter Golden Book of World Records for performing sutra neti, a hatha yoga technique to clean ones nasal cavity. It is a five minute activity and students in their bid to enter the record books, passed the rubber tube from their nasal tracts and removed it through their mouths within a minute.The record effort was recorded from four sides and the video footage will be sent to the Golden Book of Records (GBR) at California. In addition, the Kshetra will also send the names, photos and home addresses of all 368 students to the GBR authorities for ratification. Dr Prashanth Shetty, principal of the college said it is for the first time that students in this large a number have performed sutra neti and its ratification as a record would add a feather in the cap for the college.
