MANJUNATH more-in The city police’s action against the parking of vehicles outside the Milagres Hall on the busy Falnir Road has prompted people to point out more such instances in other parts of the city during the weekly phone-in programme on Friday. There was also a complaint accusing the police of harassing motorists by locking vehicle wheels that obstruct movement of traffic. A caller from Baikampady sought action against visitors to the Adka Community hall in Baikampady Industrial Area who park their vehicles on the road. Parking of vehicles in an haphazard manner was affecting traffic movement, the caller said. Deputy Commissioner of Police (Law and Order) Hanumantharaya directed the jurisdictional police to book cases under Section 283 of the Indian Penal Code (Danger or obstruction in the pubic way or line of navigation) against community hall management. Another caller complained against the police after they locked his car parked near the Karangalpady Market on Thursday. The caller said he was forced to park his car near the market as there were no designated parking space. He said the delay of three hours in getting his vehicle released from the police prevented him from attending an important programme. A caller from Thokkottu complained about traffic obstruction on the National Highway 66 near Unity Hall in Thokkottu following roadside parking of vehicles by guests to the hall. Mr. Hanumantharaya said the police was working with the National Highways Authority of India to ease movement of vehicles on the stretch. A caller from Kottara said ‘no parking’ signboards were missing on Kottara Chowki service road. He complained against parking of vehicles on the Kottara Chowki-Malemar Road that was affecting smooth movement of traffic. A caller from Kavoor expressed the need of a u-turn signboard near the Housing Board Colony. A caller from Hathill said that motorists face hardship because of water-logging near Bharat Mall in Bejai and near the Lalbagh bus stop. Another caller said several buses plying between Mangaluru and Kateel were not issuing tickets. A caller complained about collection of excess fare in some buses plying between Neermarga and State Bank.
