Mangaluru: Hardcore religious persons who believe only in their religion and do not respect other religions are bigots, said former chief minister Siddaramaiah “None of us are born after submitting an application for a religion of our choice. Everyone born in this world should have the minimum quality of loving and respecting others. Those who don’t have this quality cannot be called human beings,” said Siddaramaiah said after the release of ‘Nannolagina Nanu’, the autobiography of former minister B A Mohideen , here on Friday.“The book of Moideen contains a chapter about me too. He has mentioned the reason for my defeat in Chamundeshwari constituency and why Congress could not form the government on its own. He has given a beautiful simile wherein he has compared this election result to a cloud covering the moonlight. He opines that the cloud of Hindutva has covered my life. Hindutva and malicious campaigns have brought darkness in my political career. However, he also has predicted a good future for me,” Siddaramaiah said.Calling Moideen, who died recently, a selfless politician, Siddaramaiah said though he was born in a Muslim family, he never worked as a leader of Muslims alone.Quoting Moideen’s book, Siddaramaiah said a second freedom struggle needs to happen to wipe out communalism from democracy and thereby bring harmony in society. “In his book, Moideen has explained how innocents are targeted through communalism. He has called upon all politicians to work honestly to bring harmony in society,” Siddaramaiah said.Karnataka assembly speaker K R Ramesh Kumar, former minister M C Nanaiah, minister for urban development and housing U T Khader, MLC Ivan D’Souza and MLA B A Mohiuddin Bava were present.
