Curtains come down on 40 weeks of 'Swachh Mangaluru Abhiyan' with special 'shramadan'

MANGALURU: Ramakrishna Mission organised a special ‘shramadan’ to mark last Sunday of fourth phase of Swachhata Abhiyan by in Marnamikatta and Mangaladevi. Under this initiative such units were installed in DK ZP high school, Car Street, Madani high school, Ullal, DK ZP higher primary school, Vamanjoor, Swami Sadananda Saraswati High school, Nanthur Padavu and DK ZP high school, Moodushedde.To create awareness among students, a special magic show programme has been organized in 100 selected schools. Volunteers who participated in the ‘shramadan’ cleaned area around Marnamikatta Railway Bridge, concrete bin and surrounding areas. Chandrakanth Kulkarni of Pune, Suresh Shetty, Kamalakasha Pai, Vittaldas Prabhu, Aniruddh Nayak and others actively participated in the drive. Students are not only entertained by these shows but are also being educated about various aspects of cleanliness and their role in ensuring a clean India.

Volunteers who participated in the ‘shramadan’ cleaned area around Marnamikatta Railway Bridge, concrete bin and surrounding areas. They removed the cement dustbin and the unused small shop lying next to it. Land was levelled using JCB and flower saplings placed in pots in the area to prevent people from littering the spot.Volunteers also cleaned the Mangaladevi car street and visited houses door to door creating awareness among residents. Chandrakanth Kulkarni of Pune, Suresh Shetty, Kamalakasha Pai, Vittaldas Prabhu, Aniruddh Nayak and others actively participated in the drive. The shramadan brings down the curtain on 40 such voluntary city clean-up activities planned by Ramakrishna Mission in various localities in the city and its adjoining areas under the Swachh Mangaluru campaign.The mission conducted ‘Swachhata Darshan’, a special programme of Swachh Manas and last in the series of programmes conducted in 100 high schools. The change that was brought about in the students by series of programmes conducted in various schools under Swachh Manas, their feedback and creative thinking were tested by asking them to write a small test for hundred marks. More than 10,000 students took part in these exams.About 60 resource persons addressed these students before handing over the papers and gave them orientation as to the significance of their feedback and what their generation could do to ensure a clean city. Their papers are being evaluated and best performers will be awarded in the near future so as to encourage their peers also to join the mass cleanliness movement in the city. Ranjan Bellarpady coordinated these programmes with the assistance of Guruprasad and Kanchana.After an appeal from the school administration as also considering need to provide clean drinking water to all students as part of Swachhata abhiyan, about 10 drinking water units were installed in 10 different schools. Under this initiative such units were installed in DK ZP high school, Car Street, Madani high school, Ullal, DK ZP higher primary school, Vamanjoor, Swami Sadananda Saraswati High school, Nanthur Padavu and DK ZP high school, Moodushedde.To create awareness among students, a special magic show programme has been organized in 100 selected schools. Named as “Magic for Cleanliness”, the Vismaya magic troupe headed by magician Kuddroli Ganesh till date has conducted this show in 56 schools in the last 40 days. Students are not only entertained by these shows but are also being educated about various aspects of cleanliness and their role in ensuring a clean India. Navneeth Shetty coordinated these shows.
