He said the government under Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been selling cheap petrol and diesel to foreign countries while Indians suffer all time high prices. Monstrous taxes being levied by the Modi government have resulted in the skyrocketing petrol and diesel prices. The Modi government has already profited by over Rs 11 lakh crore from draconian taxes on fuel. The common people, the middle class, farmers, transporters and small and medium businessmen are bearing the pain, Ivan said, adding that the prices of essential commodities have been burning holes in the pockets of poor people in India.Calling rising petroleum price ‘fuel loot’, D’Souza said the Congress demands white paper from the central government on the profit received from the petroleum price rise. “An RTI reply has revealed that the central government is selling petrol to 15 foreign countries at just Rs 34 per litre and diesel to 20 foreign countries at Rs 37. The Modi government has been betraying and backstabbing people of India,” Ivan said and urged the government to include petrol and diesel under GST ambit. The Congress has demanded in July 2017 to bring petrol and diesel under the GST ambit, but the Modi government and BJP refused to accept the request, he said. “Since it is festival season, we will wait till September 10 and thereafter protests will be held in association with all like-minded organisations in the district. We also demand the central government a white paper on demonetization, which according to RBI statistics, was an utter failure,” he added.
