2 robbers in police net

MANGALURU: Personnel of Surathkal police station nabbed two people on Tuesday who had robbed bag containing jewellery from a woman who had gone for a stroll on a beach at Mukka on August 26. The woman had come to her relatives’ house at Chokkabettu in Surathkal. Police on rounds at Pattadamoole in Edamangala, Sullia, grew suspicious of a pick-up plying from Marduradka and ordered for the vehicle to stop. Accused Muhammad Salman and Tanvir snatched her bag and fled.

MANGALURU: Personnel of Surathkal police station nabbed two people on Tuesday who had robbed bag containing jewellery from a woman who had gone for a stroll on a beach at Mukka on August 26. The woman had come to her relatives’ house at Chokkabettu in Surathkal. She had gone to the beach, and on her way back, she was robbed by two youth who made away with her jewellery.Deputy commissioner of police (crime and traffic) Uma Prashanth said the victim had kept the jewellery she had worn in her handbag, while going to the beach. Accused Muhammad Salman and Tanvir snatched her bag and fled. A case was registered in the Surathkal police station. Police arrested them near Kallappu at Thokkottu and recovered 336.64 grams of gold worth Rs 8.5 lakh from their possession.Police also seized a motorcycle worth Rs 50,000 from Muhammad Salman, 26, a resident of CPC Compound, Kudroli and a car worth Rs 2.50 lakh from Muhammad Hussain Tanvir, 28, resident of Kaikamba-B C Road in Bantwal taluk.Dakshina Kannada district police on Tuesday intercepted a pick-up truck in Sullia taluk and rescued two cows that were being trafficked. Police on rounds at Pattadamoole in Edamangala, Sullia, grew suspicious of a pick-up plying from Marduradka and ordered for the vehicle to stop. While two of the occupants of the vehicle fled, police detained the driver, Radhakrishna K, who named one of the accused as Mohammed alias Maimu, while failing to name the other. Police rescued two cows valued at Rs 8,000 and seized the vehicle valued at Rs 4 lakh. An investigation is on.
