Speaking at the 39th foundation day programme of Mangalore University at Mangalagangotri after accepting felicitations, he asked the youth to have confidence in their skills and strength. Mr. Shetty said that in addition to the storyline, the local Kannada spoken in Mangaluru region, its accent and dialect helped his film. “Love your language. Don’t run away to Bengaluru in search of jobs,” he told students. He added that he has been exploring the opportunities in films, living in Mangaluru. The university also felicitated P. Gururaja, a weightlifter and Commonwealth Games medal winner. Delivering the Foundation Day address, Anup K. He asked students and teachers to have a holistic approach in life. M. Abul Rahiman, former vice-chancellor, Calicut and Kannur universities, S.N. Hegde, former vice-chancellor, University of Mysore, P.G. Chengappa, former vice-chancellor, University of Agricultural Sciences, Bengaluru, were also felicitated. The Best Teacher Award of the university for 2018 was presented to K.S. Jayappa, a professor of Marine Geology at the university. It carried ? 25,000 in purse, a citation and a memento. In his address, Kishor Kumar C.K., acting vice-chancellor, Mangalore University, said that teachers, non-teaching staff, students, former vice-chancellors have contributed as a team for the growth of the university. A.M. Khan, Registrar (administration), welcomed the gathering.
