Inebriated cop moved to safety by public suspended

Mangaluru: A traffic policeman in uniform was seen in an inebriated state with the public helping him move off the busy road to safety, fearing that he would be run over by vehicles. The incident took place near Lalbagh junction , here on Wednesday.The policeman has been identified as Ashok Gowda from the Mangaluru West traffic police station. A group of people then walk him towards one side of the road, even as motorists stop their vehicles to witness the scene. Shetty said Gowda was an alcoholic and had recently resumed duty after taking 100 days leave.A police communique later said Ashok Gowda, who is presently working in the Traffic West police station, has been suspended for his misconduct at Lalbagh junction.

Some sources said he was off duty, however, he was still in uniform.Manjunath Shetty, ACP, traffic, told TOI that Gowda was taken for a medical examination, and it was confirmed that he was inebriated. Shetty said Gowda was an alcoholic and had recently resumed duty after taking 100 days leave.A police communique later said Ashok Gowda, who is presently working in the Traffic West police station, has been suspended for his misconduct at Lalbagh junction.
