Mangaluru: City Crime Bureau cop suspended in honey-trapping row

MANGALURU: A personnel of the City Crime Bureau(CCB) of the Mangaluru City police has been suspended after the team investigating a honey trap case named him in its preliminary report.T R Suresh, city police chief, said the suspension of Ganesh, 45, a head constable, was based on a report submitted by Rajendra, ACP, Mangaluru North under the direction of Uma Prashanth , DCP (Crime and Traffic).The case pertains to honey-trapping a retired government officer. Three men barged into the house and shot a video of him and the woman naked. Though the incident took place on March, it came to light only recently.On March 20, a 71-year-old retired PWD officer had availed “massage” service at his house in Maryhill. They demanded Rs 10 lakh if he wanted to keep the case confidential.Without giving a second thought, the officer handed them over Rs 3 lakh.Three days later, police from Kavoor station took cognisance of the matter and gathered details from the officer after which they filed a case.

When asked for an explanation, he had said he knew the woman beforehand and had hence given her his sim card which he had not been using.Soon after Ganesh’s name cropped up last month, he was removed from the CCB and transferred to the Moodbidri police station, a police officer said.
