MANGALURU: A youth stranded in Saudi Arabia after being a victim of a job fraud is on his way home, thanks to the intervention of the Indian Social Forum (ISF).Nagaraj, 30, from Moodbidri was assured a job as an industrial electrician. He was, however, made to work in various capacities, including as a farmer and driver.Nagaraj appeared for an interview arranged by an agent in Mangaluru and qualified for the post of industrial electrician. He was handed appointment letter and flew to the Arab land, looking at greener pastures. To his utter dismay, he was made to work in various areas. Though Nagaraj approached his boss several times seeking justice , the employer refused to heed."I was in Saudi Arabia for a couple of months. I was unemployed for a month and later worked in various capacities. Though I prayed them to release me so I could come back, they denied citing certain laws. I had a horrible time," Nagaraj, who is on his way to Mangaluru from Mumbai in a train, told TOI on Monday.Nagaraj said his family members back home approached the agent, asking to facilitate his return. They also paid Rs 1 lakh of the Rs 1.75 lakh the agent demanded for the purpose. However, signs of his return looked bleak even after several weeks.As Nagaraj continued suffering, a friend approached the ISF. A team comprising Hassan Kinnigoli , Kaizar Kannangar, Ashraf Ullal, Naushad Katipalla and Naufal visited Nagaraj's employer.The ISF members succeeded in securing Nagaraj's exit visa. Not only that, they also helped him get impending salary and the money paid to the job agent."I want to tell people not to repeat the mistake I did. Kindly do not trust your agent blindly," Nagaraj said.
