Mangaluru: Hours after a viral video of a delivery executive of an online food delivery company was purportedly seen digging into food ordered by a customer, users who use such apps in Mangaluru have expressed apprehension about the services.A video of a delivery executive allegedly in a Zomato T-shirt, carrying a Zomato delivery bag, eating food out of boxed orders and replacing each one after resealing them, back into the delivery bag, had gone viral. The video showed how food meant for delivery to consumers was being eaten before it was delivered to them. Food blogger and digital marketer Laxmi Shenoy said: “I think ‘Zomato’ needs to feed its staff properly. This behaviour is very bad on part of the staff. Zomato has to take this incident seriously, and ensure proper delivery of food.” Laxmi is an avid user of the online food delivery app, and added that delivery executives need to be properly trained before joining duty.Sonia, who also uses such food delivery apps, questioned how anyone can deliver leftover food to users? It is time to find some good method to stop the tampering of food that is being delivered, she said.Soon after the video went viral, Zomato wrote in their blog: We take these kinds of reports extremely seriously and upon thorough investigation, we have found that the video was shot in Madurai. The person in the video happened to be a delivery partner on our fleet.Zomato added that unfortunately the video also highlights a real possibility for tampering with the food on the way to be delivered to an end customer, from a restaurant. “We take this very seriously and will soon introduce tamper-proof tapes, and other precautionary measures to ensure we add an extra layer of safety against such behaviour. Additionally, we will educate our delivery fleet of over 1.5 lakh partners to highlight or escalate any such deviations to us, while also encouraging our users — the custodians of our platform — to highlight the smallest of anomalies to us,” he added
