Official sources said they are yet to complete various development works required to allow people into the pool. “The new ozonisation plant has been inaugurated and other development works are being taken up. All works will be completed soon and the pool will be open to public on March 1,” said an official.The new ozonisation plant was installed at a cost of Rs 98 lakh at the pool to ensure the quality of water. It will also cut costs for the city corporation. The plant was set up on a 25 cents vacant land adjacent to the swimming pool. An old filter plant, which was filtering water for the pool, has been dismantled and the new ozonisation plant has been made functional. The plant will save Rs 50 lakh per year for the MCC as it will not have to replace water every six months. At present, water from the pool is replaced completely once in six months. With the new ozonisation plant, water will need to be replaced once in two or three years. However, the development of other infrastructure is still on, the pool will open only from March 1, he said.Similar is the situation at Urwa Market and Kavoor Market built by the MCC. The minister formally inaugurated the buildings, but could not open them yet. Since Lok Sabha election is round the corner, leaders are keen on inaugurating the projects as they are well aware of the restrictions of code of conduct.When contacted, mayor K Bhaskar Moily, whose tenure ends on March 7, said he will ensure that the swimming pool and market buildings will be functional soon. “I will speak to officials and see that all projects opened recently are functional,” he added.
