Underworld connection found in KaropadyGram Panchayat vice-president’s murder

Underworld operative Vikki Shetty is wanted in as many as seven criminal cases by police. Talking to reporters here on Saturday, Mr. Harishekaran said underworld operative Vikki Shetty hails from Karopady. Four masked men arrived in two vehicles to the Karopady Gram Panchayat office and hacked Abdul Jalil to death. Vikki Shetty, who stays abroad, called Rajesh Nayak over a 100 times and had asked him to kill Jalil. Vikki Shetty was unhappy with Jalil as the latter had not considered his suggestions on development and other issues related to the village.

Abdul Jalil Karopady, 40, vice-president, Karopady Gram Panchayat, on April 20, said P. Harishekaran, Inspector General of Police (Western Range), here on Saturday. The Vitla police have arrested 11 persons in this connection. Four masked men arrived in two vehicles to the Karopady Gram Panchayat office and hacked Abdul Jalil to death. The Vitla police have arrested Rajesh Nayak, Narasimha Shetty, Roshan, Puneet, Prajwal, Sachin, Pushparaj, Satish Rai, Keshav, Prashant and Vachan. Talking to reporters here on Saturday, Mr. Harishekaran said underworld operative Vikki Shetty hails from Karopady. Jalil had defeated Vikki Shetty’s relative Dinesh Shetty in 2015 to become the vice-resident of the gram panchayat. Vikki Shetty was unhappy with Jalil as the latter had not considered his suggestions on development and other issues related to the village. Vikki Shetty, who stays abroad, called Rajesh Nayak over a 100 times and had asked him to kill Jalil. Mr. Harishekaran said Nayak was also unhappy with Jalil as the latter had tipped off the Forest Department about the former’s alleged illegal movement of timber. Nayak was also angry over Jalil allegedly showing support to persons accused of assaulting the former. Mr. Harishekaran said the police would trace the whereabouts of Vikki Shetty and initiate proceedings to book him under the Karnataka Control of Organised Crime Act, 2000. Underworld operative Vikki Shetty is wanted in as many as seven criminal cases by police.
