Engg. student abused; three arrested

The Mangaluru North Police have registered a case under Sections 341 (wrongful restraint) and 506 (criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code. According to Mangaluru North Police, the 30-year-old man reportedly brushed against a girl from a different community near the billing counter. According to a complaint filed by the woman student with the Mangaluru North Police, she had come with the two lecturers to buy stationery for the start-up firm she and her classmates were launching. Three persons allegedly verbally abused a 20-year-old engineering student from one community and two lecturers of another community when they saw them together near a stationery shop on Car Street here on Monday evening. When they arrived at the shop at around 5 p.m., the three persons asked her why she was with the lecturers.

The lecturers were guiding the students for the project. When they arrived at the shop at around 5 p.m., the three persons asked her why she was with the lecturers. Though she explained the situation, the group refused to listen and they flung abuses at them. Just as the police arrived at the spot, the three fled. The Mangaluru North Police have registered a case under Sections 341 (wrongful restraint) and 506 (criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code. Meanwhile, the police said that they arrested Ramil Akram (25), Mohammed Nilaf (23) and Mohammed Sauhan (23), all residents of Kotekar, in this connection. Assaulted In another incident at a mall on K.S. Rao Road, a group of 15 persons allegedly assaulted a 30-year-old man from Surathkal for reportedly misbehaving with a girl from a different community at a foodstore. According to Mangaluru North Police, the 30-year-old man reportedly brushed against a girl from a different community near the billing counter. As he was going out of the mall, the group from the girl’s community started beating the man. The group left the place just as the police arrived at the spot. The injured man was shifted to hospital for treatment. The police have registered a complaint lodged by the man under Sections 307 (attempt to murder) and Section 147 (rioting) against the assailants. These assailants are yet to identified, the police said. Though both the incidents took place on Monday, the victims filed the complaints with police on Tuesday and subsequently, cases were registered. The police suspected that the assailants in the two cases could be from a Muslim fundamentalist organisation.
