Manipal University to organise philatelic exhibition ‘Tulunadpex’

MANIPAL: The Manipal University Philatelic and Numismatics Club in association with Dakshina Kannada Philatelic and Numismatic Association will organize two days Tulunadpex-2017 , a regional level Philatelic and Numismatic Exhibition and competition at Manipal from August 19.The exhibition will be open to the public between 10am to 6pm and the entry is free. The Philately showed its presence in the year 1975 with the formation of Mangaluru Philatelic Club which is now known as Dakshina Kannada Philatelic and Numismatic Association. Classes 8 - 12: India of My Dreams.The Coastal part of Karnataka has contributed to the hobbies of Philately and Numismatics. Suma added the club was started on December 6, 2015 with the idea of promoting the hobby in the region. "The aim of the exhibition is to promote philately and numismatics and create awareness about educational and cultural values of stamps and coins among public specially the youth and the school children," said Suma Nair, director Student Affairs and president of Manipal University Philatelic and Numismatics Club .

This year there are far more entries," she added.Organizing secretary, Vishwesh K said, six special covers and a permanent pictorial cancellation will be released on August 20. Also, there will be a drawing completion-Design your Stamp--for the school and PU college students.Those students who are interested in taking part can register their names at the earliest. The venue for the drawing completion will be Dr T M A Pai Hall, second floor Manipal. The themes for the drawing competition will be as follows: Classes 1 - 4: My Favourite Animal /Bird. Classes 5 - 7: Swachh Bharat. Classes 8 - 12: India of My Dreams.The Coastal part of Karnataka has contributed to the hobbies of Philately and Numismatics. This association used to conduct Philatelic exhibition every two years and used to promote Philately in the region.The last exhibition was conducted in 2006 in Udupi by this association and 2009 by the Postal Department Mangaluru division after which there is a decline in this hobby among the younger generation of this region."The coins on display also are of the rare kind. Indian princely states, India pre and post-Independence and foreign coins. There will be 219 frames of stamps and 60 tables of coins collections on display, making it a colourful exhibition and is a biggest ever conducted in this region," Vishwesh said.In this exhibition there will be a display of stamps and coins collection by senior philatelist and Numismatist - Daniel Monteiro, M K Krishnayya, Vittal Das Shanbaugh, Vinod H Bhat, , M R Pavanje, Sridhar, Prabhakar Kamath and Jayaprakash Rao and others who have won awards in state, national and international level on various topics.
