Dakshina Kannada administration confident of smooth Tipu Jayanti celebrations

The Dakshina Kannada district administration has geared up to ensure smooth celebrations of Tipu Jayanti on Friday even as it has made clear that there will be only one event in the district. Similar bandobast is being arranged for BJP’s Parivarthan Rally on Saturday at Moodabidri and Nehru Maidan in the city, Mr. Suresh said. The police have also planned to take a few persons into preventive custody on Thursday evening, Mr. Suresh added. Mr. Suresh said the city police have booked over 80 security cases against habitual offenders and obtained bonds from them for good behaviour. Sudheer Kumar Reddy said along with civil police, 10 platoons of KSRP and one company of RAF would be deployed in different parts of the district for bandobast during Tipu Jayanti and Parivarthana Yatra.

Speaking to reporters here on Thursday, Deputy Commissioner Sasikanth Senthil said the celebrations would be only at the district level, at Netravathi Auditorium, Zilla Pachayat premises. There will not be any procession either, he said. Mangaluru City Police Commissioner T.R. Suresh said there would be only one celebration in the district. Neither has any other organisation applied for permission to hold the celebrations nor the police would give permission to such requests, he added. However, there is no bar on holding any other public programme during the day, the commissioner said. Mr. Suresh said the city police have booked over 80 security cases against habitual offenders and obtained bonds from them for good behaviour. Police are also keeping a close watch on trouble mongers to prevent any untoward incident, the commissioner said. The police have also planned to take a few persons into preventive custody on Thursday evening, Mr. Suresh added. Over 1,200 police personnel, including those from Karnataka State Reserve Police and City Armed Reserve, would be deployed at all sensitive areas across the commissionerate. Also, one company of Rapid Action Force would be stationed in the city to face any eventuality, he added. Sudheer Kumar Reddy said along with civil police, 10 platoons of KSRP and one company of RAF would be deployed in different parts of the district for bandobast during Tipu Jayanti and Parivarthana Yatra.
