The IMA is opposing proposed amendments to the Karnataka Private Medical Establishments Act, 2007. Meanwhile, Government Wenlock Hospital, Lady Goschen Hospital and the Regional Advanced Paediatric Care Centre functioned normally. “Generally we see a rush on Monday and Tuesday. Today, the load was slightly more at the OPD (Out-Patient Department) and Casualty,” an officer from Wenlock Hospital said. Of the 600 personnel, nearly 500 doctors, nursing staff and other personnel were deployed, she added. The OPDs of all the private hospitals in the city were closed. A banner was placed outside Kasturba Medical College Hospital’s two units at Ambedkar Circle and one at Attavar providing information about the closure of services for 24 hours in support of IMA’s protest call. Another banner said services would be affected indefinitely from Tuesday if the government does not drop the proposed amendment. The OPDs of various hospitals, namely Father Muller, A.J. Shetty, Yenepoya, K.S. Hegde and Kanachur, also remained closed. In addition to meeting staff requirements at the hospital on Monday, the Wenlock Hospital authorities arranged for personnel for the health care of Governor of Nagaland Padmanabha Balakrishna Acharya, who is on a visit to the city. The personnel posted for the Governor’s care work on three different shifts, an official said.
