Six Indira Canteens to come upin city in January; one in Ullal

The Ullal City Municipal Council has earmarked land for a canteen near the Thokkottu Junction. Two more canteens will come up near the Government School in Kavoor and near the Primary Health Centre in Surathkal, respectively. Talking to reporters here on Tuesday, Ms. Sanil said that as per the orders of the State government, the Mangaluru City Corporation has earmarked land for the five canteens coming up in the city. Indira Canteen will come up at five places in the city and in one location in Ullal, Mayor Kavitha Sanil said and added that these canteens will be operational on January 1. A canteen and a master kitchen will come up on the 2,825-ft corporation land at Derebail.

Ms. Sanil said that one canteen will come up be adjoining the space opposite Lady Goschen Hospital that has been allocated for street vendors to sell their produce. Another canteen will come up near the Kankanady flower market. A canteen and a master kitchen will come up on the 2,825-ft corporation land at Derebail. Two more canteens will come up near the Government School in Kavoor and near the Primary Health Centre in Surathkal, respectively. Ms. Sanil said that clearance has been given to Karnataka Rural Infrastructure Development Limited for construction of the master kitchen at a cost of ? 2.97 crore. She said that a committee headed by the Deputy Commissioner will oversee the implementation and working of these canteens. The agency providing food at these canteens will be selected through tender process initiated by the Deputy Commissioner. While 70 % of subsidy for the food provided every month at the canteens will be borne by the corporation, the balance 30 per cent will be borne by the Labour Department, Ms. Sanil said.
