Meerut double murder: Fourth accused arrested

Meerut: Nearly four weeks after a mother-son duo was shot dead in Partapur area here, police on Sunday arrested the fourth accused, Amit Kumar, who carried a bounty of Rs 25,000. Within minutes, the murderers reached his house and killed his mother, who was sitting on a wooden cot and chatting with a neighbour. He is a resident of Muzaffarnagar’s Bhopa area and has been sent to jail. Kaur’s murder was captured on CCTV cameras and the shocking video had gone viral on the internet.Rashid Ali, station house officer of Partapur police station, said, “Amit Lal, a resident of Muzaffarnagar was arrested on Sunday early morning after police got a tip off in the matter. While four people have been arrested so far in this case, one died in a police encounter and four others are still at large.”One Vikas Jaat who had a bounty of Rs 25,000 was killed in an encounter in Muzaffarnagar on February 7.

Till now, of the nine accused in the case, four have been arrested while one was killed in a police encounter in Muzaffarnagar.On January 24, 35-year-old Balwinder Singh and his mother, Nichhatar Kaur (65), both residents of Sorkha village in Partapur area, were shot dead a day before they were to appear before a local court as witnesses to the murder of Balwinder's father, Narinder Singh, killed in 2016 in a family rivalry. Kaur’s murder was captured on CCTV cameras and the shocking video had gone viral on the internet.Rashid Ali, station house officer of Partapur police station, said, “Amit Lal, a resident of Muzaffarnagar was arrested on Sunday early morning after police got a tip off in the matter. While four people have been arrested so far in this case, one died in a police encounter and four others are still at large.”One Vikas Jaat who had a bounty of Rs 25,000 was killed in an encounter in Muzaffarnagar on February 7. Two others surrendered and another two including Amit have been arrested by the police.In the chilling murders, 35-year-old Balwinder Singh and his 65-year-old mother, Nichhatar Kaur, were shot dead within a span of 10 minutes on two separate locations by the same set of assailants on January 24.On January 24, Singh had left his house when the three assailants came in front of his car and opened fire. Within minutes, the murderers reached his house and killed his mother, who was sitting on a wooden cot and chatting with a neighbour.
