Bomb scare at Allahabad-bound train, hundreds of passengers asked to deboard

Meerut: Hundreds of passengers of an Allahabad-bound train were asked to deboard at Hapur station on Monday night after a device, suspected to be a bomb attached to a timer, was spotted near a toilet. Several teams of RAF, GRP, local police and bomb squads were pressed in action.“All the passengers have been safely evacuated and the area has been cordoned off. Fire tenders are on stand-by and all necessary precautions are being taken,” said Ram Mohan Singh, additional superintendent of police, Hapur. Heavy police force, an RAF contingent and a bomb squad rushed to tackle the situation at the busy Hapur station through which several high-speed trains pass.A senior official, on condition of anonymity, said that the device has been sent for examination by the bomb disposal squad and nothing could be said before the report arrives.The train was halted at Hapur station, about 20 km from its origin in Meerut even as passengers panicked.There was pandemonium at the station as the police tried to evacuate the passengers once the train arrived at platform number 5 at around 8 pm.
