However, the attempts of the hospital staff to cover up the incident could not succeed as the matter reached higher authorities and a probe was ordered to fix responsibility.On Friday, chief medical superintendent (CMS) of the hospital, Aabha Verma?,? asked for an explanation from the staff ?present in the hospital during the incident.“I have set up an inquiry and asked for ?an ?explanation from the staff. Strict action will be taken against those found guilty,” she said, adding, “The woman is recuperating in hospital and is out of danger. Her statement will be recorded soon.”Laik Ahmed, the husband of the woman, said: “I took my wife to the government women hospital on Wednesday night after she complained of labour pain. But the staff asked for money and refused admission when I told them I had none. They referred my wife to Meerut Medical College, but I had no money to travel so far. There was no ambulance to take us there. While we were leaving the hospital, Shaheen delivered the child while standing. It fell on the ground and died of head injury.”
