Meerut: Senior superintendent of police Manzil Saini on Sunday asked cops to be careful of what they say on phone. The cop was later suspended.“I hope you guys know what happened with the Jhansi cop. DGP OP Singh intervened in the matter and claimed that t all allegations of “encounter fixing” are baseless. The direction was issued in a meeting on law and order and has come in the wake of the Jhansi incident in which an inspector was heard bragging about “fixing an encounter”. The cop was later suspended.“I hope you guys know what happened with the Jhansi cop. I don’t want an incident like that here. Be careful of what you speak over the phone. It is easy to record conversations,” the SSP said.“I don’t want you people to get into such a mess in the name of ‘good work’,” Saini said to her subordinates present at the meeting, which was attended by SP (city) Maan Singh Chauhan, SP (crime) Shivram Yadav and stations house officers of all police stations in Meerut.In the Jhansi audio clip, inspector Suneet Kumar Singh, station house officer of Mauranipur police station, was allegedly heard alerting Lekhraj Singh Yadav, a criminal wanted in several murder and extortion cases, about a planned encounter. In the lengthy conversation, the SHO is heard boasting about killing many criminals.“I will advise you to manage Sanjay Dubey (BJP district president) and Rajeev Singh Parichha (Babina MLA). Then only you can get some relief. Or else, anything can happen,” the SHO can be heard saying.The incident had embarrassed the entire police department which is already facing criticism for its alleged fake encounter. DGP OP Singh intervened in the matter and claimed that t all allegations of “encounter fixing” are baseless. The erring cop was suspended pending inquiry.
